In the wake of the recent fatal shootings at a University of Oregon football game, Oregon Gov.
Kate Brown said she wants to make it harder for students to get to sporting events.
“We’re going to do what we can to make sure our students are safe,” Brown said in a statement Friday.
Brown said she has “serious concerns” about the state’s new bus schedule that will be announced on Tuesday.
The new schedule would reduce the number of buses from eight to five in each school year.
The state’s transportation department said it would also be reducing the number or the type of bus from the four-seater, single-occupancy vehicles to the two-seaters.
It’s unclear if the change would be permanent.
Brown did not name the schools that would be affected by the change, but she did say she would not tolerate “anybody who has a disability or a disability-related illness or injury.”
The Oregon Athletic Association did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
